چکیده

conclusions the biosurfactants inhibited the growth of organisms such as pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus aureus, klebsiella pneumonia and escherichia coli with diethanolamide biosurfactant exhibiting better antibacterial activity than sulphated diethanolamide. results the iodine and saponification values of citrullus lanatus oil were 118.50 ± 0.80 g iodine/100g and 199.10 ± 2.40 mgkoh/g respectively. linoleic acid (56.9 %) was reported to be the most abundant fatty acid in citrullus lanatus oil. background analysis and applications of lesser known underutilized seed oils are important, since there is little or no information on their composition and uses, most of them are discarded as waste every year. materials and methods diethanolamide biosurfactant was produced from the oil via transamidation reaction using sodium methoxide as catalyst while the diethanolamide was sulphated using chlorosulphonic acid. the conversion of the oil to the biosurfactants was monitored using ftir spectrophotometer. objectives the present work reports the antibacterial activities of diethanolamides (nonionic surfactant) and sulphated diethanolamide (anionic surfactant) synthesized from the seed oil of citrullus lanatus.

Microemulsions with Nonionic Surfactants and Mint Oil

A combination of electrical conductivity, dynamic viscosity, dynamic light scattering and small angle X-ray scattering methods was used to study the properties of the water + propylene glycol/mixed nonionic surfactants/ peppermint oil + ethanol U-type microemulsions which can be diluted with any amount of water. The surfactants were sucrose laurate and ethoxylated mono-di-glyceride. The mixing ...

Effects of Several Nonionic and Anionic Surfactants on Cucumber Protoplasts*

The effects of four nonionic and two anionic surfactants on cucumber protoplasts were examined by light and electron microscopy. Two nonionic surfactants, polyoxyethylene (POE) (n=10) nonylphenylether and POE (n=5) laurylether, caused swelling of protoplasts, followed by their bursting. The bursting gave more destructive effects preferentially on lamellar structures of chloroplasts than the swe...

Electrodeposition of anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants and gold nanoparticles onto glassy carbon electrode for catechol detection

Three surfactants were selected to modify glassy carbon electrode including sodiumdodecylbenzenesulfonate, Tween 80 and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. The obtained nano-Au/surfactant/GCEs were characterized with scanning electron microscopy and electrochemicaltechniques. Electrochemical behavior of catechol at the nano-Au/surfactant/GCE was thoroughlyinvestigated for mo...

Toxicity of nonionic surfactants

Nonionic surfactants are amphilic chemicals that enhance desorption and bioavailability by increasing solubility and dispersion of poorly soluble hydrocarbons and oils. This study was conducted to determine the toxicity of commercial nonionic surfactants by using the Microtox Acute Toxicity test which is a rapid, simple test for toxicity. The test uses the luminescent bacterium V. fischeri as t...

Origin and emergence of the sweet dessert watermelon, Citrullus lanatus.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Watermelons, Citrullus species (Cucurbitaceae), are native to Africa and have been cultivated since ancient times. The fruit flesh of wild watermelons is watery, but typically hard-textured, pale-coloured and bland or bitter. The familiar sweet dessert watermelons, C. lanatus, featuring non-bitter, tender, well-coloured flesh, have a narrow genetic base, suggesting that they...
